Coriolis Effect Lab Design
Objective
Design and implement a model using your knowledge of the Coriolis Effect that demonstrates what direction a pilot would take when traveling to San Fransisco from Seattle
Research
The Earth's rotation causes the prevailing winds to change direction.
Procedure
We placed a drop of colored water on a globe near Seattle. Then we spun the globe carefully and followed the movement of the drop.
Data
When we placed the water on the globe, it first went the wrong way because of gravity. After a minor adjustment, the water drop started veering to the right
Data Analysis
The wind pushing against the rotation of the earth causes waves and even air vehicles to change course, going in the direction of the wind
